Today, I want to share a personal post about someone who has been incredibly important to me. As a top performer in both sports and business, I've learned to put my head down, endure hardships, work harder than anyone else, never give up, and always outrun the competition. This drive has led to great successes, amazing experiences, and unforgettable life stores. However, despite my achievements, I found myself questioning who I was beyond the accolades, the trophies, and the magazine articles. Who was I in my soul?
I've had the incredibly privilege of having a particular person in my life who not only suffered alongside me in sport (even though her sports career ended before mine) but also navigated the emotional and soul growth challenges that I would eventually face. She struggled not only with the physical aspects of change but, as I now understand, the far more challenging emotional changes that come with acknowledging one's soul. We are not defined by our accomplishments. We are not the trophies or the magazine articles; we are the spark inside that prompts us to help someone on the side of the road, pick up a piece of trash when nobody's looking or write a card to a friend in need. When we align with our soul, we feel better, perform better, and live better.
I may no longer be a professional athlete, and I may never be the #1 real estate agent or the best developer in the Bay Area, but I have found who I am as a human with the help of many people along the way. One person, in particular, stands out.
I watched her transition from a top athlete to a wheelchair-bound friend living at my house, struggling to heal from extensive surgeries to reconstruct her back. Through her journey and our evolving friendship, I observed and learned. She went back to school, rehabilitated, and reinvented every part of herself, ultimately finding her soul. Her experience through adversity has made her one of my most trusted guides. She has been my soul's coach for years, and I can't thank her enough for her empathy, strength, and for challenging me to truly evaluate what aligns with me. She has helped me stop running from things and instead, walk toward what makes my soul shine.
Monique Petrov is now coaching others, and it is with great honor that I recommend her to anyone questioning how they want to live and what drives them. Mindset is everything, and with the right tools in your toolbox (which are unique to each of us), there is flow, grace, and utter joy.
I'm so proud of you, Mo, for your bravery, your inspiration in my life, and your ability to show me how to ask the right questions and flourish. May you help others in even half the ways you have helped me. Love you!
